2014 remix schedule discussion
I'm trying to figure out when I want to run X-Men Remix next year. The big Remix challenge it's based off of was traditionally a spring challenge, but given that the XMFC sequel is coming out in May, that creates some issues for next year.
The first option is to run it in March and April, before the movie comes out. Signups would be in early March, stories would be due in late April, with reveals in late April/early May.
Or, we could wait until after the movie comes out, have signups in late June/early July, and stories would be due in late August or early September. (ETA: Or have signups in late June and have stories due in early/mid August.)
If we go with the earlier schedule, there will be a smaller group of people participating, and it's (probably) more likely to clash with whatever next year's Big Bang schedule is.
If we go with the later schedule, there should be more people participating, as the new movie will bring in some new people for the fandom, it's less likely to conflict with Big Bang (though how unlikely, idk, since the schedule's not out yet; I think I heard something about signups starting early in 2014).
I'm leaning toward running it in the summer, but I wanted to take fandom's temperature on this, see what you guys think.
There are a couple other changes planned for next year, too, btw. 1. Matching will be based on the movies only, as every signup we had last year was for/included the movies. (People who have also written in comics fandom etc will be able to opt in to allow their other X-Men fic to be remixed, but matching will be based on the movies.) 2. I am undecided on whether or not to allow artist signups in the main exchange next year, as we had very little interest from artists this year. (If I go with the earlier schedule, it will be fic only in the main exchange, as I doubt there would be that much more interest when fandom would still be smaller than it was for this year's remix. If the later schedule, I will see how many artists are potentially interested, and if there are 5-6+, will probably allow artist signups in the main exchange again.)

ETA: Due to the responses we had, we will be running Remix over the summer, a few weeks after the XMFC sequel is released in the US. Signups will begin around the last week of June, stories will be due around first or second week of August. We'll post the official schedule sometime this spring, probably sometime in May or June as we advertise and try to drum up interest. :)
