X-Men Remix

Authors and artists have now been revealed for the X-Men Remix 2017 collection! Since this is happening so early in the day, we’ll be revealing authors/artists for the Madness round separately (see below).

The X-Men Remix Madness 2017 collection will have authors/artists revealed and close for posting when unforgotten gets home from work tonight (around 2am Eastern Time). If you are still working on a madness fic at that time, posting it will be between you and the original author/artist.

Thanks so much to all our participants! The final(ish) count is 22 works in the main collection and 39+ (!!) works in the madness collection, for a total of 61+ (!!!) new X-Men works.

Thanks so much as well to everyone who signed up for the pinch hit list, and especially to afrocurl and Unforgotten, who each wrote a pinch hit.

And a special shout-out to the people writing for Madness, at least one of whom had the extremely clear goal of making sure everyone who signed up for Madness received at least one remix - yes, the mods noticed you, and we can’t say how happy your efforts make us. <3

Finally, thanks to everyone who kudos’d, commented on, and/or recced anything in the collections. Feedback makes the world go round!

Usually, this part of this message would be where we would say when we expect next year’s exchange to run. However, there is a chance this was X-Men Remix’s last year. 

Why? We had 22 signups this year when we usually have 27-30, which we consider a very steep drop-off after the fairly level numbers from 2013-2016. Additionally, almost everyone who signed up this year had signed up for XM Remix previously or had otherwise been in the fandom for quite some time. We had almost no new people sign up this year, which suggests that while people are leaving the fandom the way they always have, not enough new people may be joining to keep things going. (Yes, we had our best ever turnout for Madness re: works posted...but even there we had significantly fewer signups than for the last couple years.)

Long story short, if current trends continue, we’re concerned about fandom’s ability to sustain a remix exchange going forward. But we are going to look at it again next spring, and let you guys know what’s going to happen once we’ve taken stock. There will probably be a poll involved.

If the main exchange does not run in 2018, we may run a Madness round by itself, then run the main exchange again in winter 2019 after Dark Phoenix comes out...but we can’t make long-term promises one way or the other without knowing what the fandom’s going to look like (or whether or not we’ll still be here ourselves, tbh - after six years of being in this fandom, it may be that the next one is just around the corner).

As a final note: In the event that this was XM Remix’s last year, then we would like to say that running it has been a great pleasure. We love remixes and the creativity they inspire; that the XMFC fandom has produced over 260 of them over the past five years is incredible to us. Thanks for being so awesome, guys. <3

X-Men Remix 2017 is open for viewing!

Meanwhile, the madness collection will open several hours earlier than anticipated, at 7-8am tomorrow morning. (I have an unavoidable errand to run that I wasn’t expecting before.)

If you did not turn in your assignment, you have now been defaulted and your assignment sent to pinch hit. If you finish your assignment anyway, you may still post it to the collection if you want.

Assuming both pinch hits are turned in on time, the collection will open around 10am Eastern Time on July 2. There may or may not be a post confirming the time later this week, but if you are still editing your remix, please plan to be finished by this time.

As an additional reminder, Remix Madness is now open for both signups and posting. It will go live a day after the main collection, on July 3, and will remain open for signups and posting until the end of the day on July 9.

Authors/artists revealed: July 9
